How to choose an acrylic court system.
A practical guide to substrate, preparation, acrylic layers, colours, resurfacing and line marking.
1. Start with the base
Concrete and asphalt bases behave differently. Check level, slope, cracks, drainage, moisture and surface condition before selecting the coating scope.
2. Define the preparation
Cleaning and repairs are not optional details. They are part of the performance of the final court.
3. Specify the surface system
Do not compare quotations only by the number of coats. Compare the complete layer build-up, material type, application method and preparation scope.
4. Choose the sport and colour layout
Basketball, tennis, pickleball and volleyball require different line layouts. Multi-purpose courts need coordinated markings.
5. Decide between new flooring and resurfacing
An existing court may be restorable if the substrate and existing system are suitable. Structural problems may require additional civil work.
6. Ask for a written scope
A professional quotation should identify what is included, what is excluded, the base condition assumptions, number/type of layers and line-marking scope.
